The AFYM concert will take place on Sunday 15th March 2020 commencing at 3pm in the Taliesin Arts Centre, Swansea University, Swansea SA2 8PZ. We look forward to this annual celebration of the musical talent displayed at the festival in February by young musicians from South Wales and beyond. The concert also provides an opportunity for the AFYM committee to thank our sponsors and patrons without whom AFYM could not exist.

Who decides who will play in the concert?

Throughout the festival the adjudicators recommend performers for invitation to participate in the concert. These will not necessarily be class winners but may have shown particular qualities admired by the adjudicator or have chosen an unusual piece or combination of instruments. An invitation to perform at the concert is considered a great honour and performers are expected to dress appropriately and bow at the end of their performance. There is always great support for the performers from an excellent backstage team of AFYM stewards and older AFYM musicians led by our Chairperson Penny Davies.

How do I obtain tickets for the concert?

Tickets will be sold by the Taliesin Centre and can be purchased by going to www.taliesinartscentre.co.uk or phoning 01792 602060. The cost is £7 for adults and children will be admitted free of charge. Concert performers will be seated together in the auditorium having been escorted there after their performance and do not need tickets. However if a family would like their child to sit with them after performing (e.g. if the child is young) they should ensure that they obtain a ticket for them when they are buying their own tickets.

Wheelchair spaces: there are two wheelchair spaces in the auditorium which are allocated on a first come first served basis. If you know you will need a wheelchair space you are strongly advised to purchase your concert tickets from Taliesin well in advance and request one of these spaces.

The concert concludes with a presentation of trophies and bursaries.

Concert attendees are kindly asked to note that recording of any kind (audio or video) in the auditorium is strictly forbidden. This is to ensure that AFYM complies with its Child Protection responsibilities as well as with the Taliesin Centre’s own regulations. There will be an opportunity to take photos at the end of the concert for those who wish to do so.

If you have any queries about the concert please contact Margaret Denholm AFYM Concert Secretary who will be very pleased to assist.
