It is with great sadness that the AFYM committee announces the death of our AFYM secretary, Lilian Morgan. Lilian joined the committee of AFYM in the very early days, and worked tirelessly for over 20 years on behalf of the festival. For many of those years she produced, single-handedly, nearly all of the festival documentation, including the programme. Lilian knew AFYM as well as anyone and she was a calm and cheerful guiding hand, offering support in order to keep us all on track. Her sensible and considered opinions helped shape the AFYM into the festival it now is, and [...]
After much deliberation and with great regret the AFYM committee has decided that it is not feasible to hold a festival and concert in 2021. Preparations for the festival such as booking venues and adjudicators would normally be made by now but due to the coronavirus pandemic it has not been possible to make definite plans or commitments. Even if the situation were to improve significantly soon it would be too late to make all the arrangements for a festival in early 2021. Another consideration is that many members of the AFYM committee and stewards who are vital to the [...]
BBC Workshop April/May 2020 With regret, the committee of AFYM is writing to inform you that the proposed BBC NOW workshop for which you have registered is unlikely to go ahead. The latest Government information indicates that the coronavirus pandemic is likely to escalate further and social distancing may have to last for some time into the future. ‘Crowd' events are prohibited, and it can not be known when these restrictions will be lifted. Sadly, the proposed workshop between BBC, WGM and AFYM falls within this immediate window and it seems extremely unlikely that it can go ahead. The BBC [...]

AFYM Trophies 2020 EPTA Piano Trophy: Charlotte Kwok Swansea Festival Patrons Cup: Anna Sagrillo AFYM Tenth Anniversary Trophy: Lowri Keirl Lord Mayor’s 25th Anniversary Trophy for School Music: Parkland Primary School Llewellyn Shield for Chamber Music: Archbishop Four Trophy for [...]
Cancellation of AFYM Concert 15th March 2020 It is with great regret that the AFYM committee has made the decision to cancel the AFYM Gala concert, which was due to take place on Sunday 15th March. We have reached this viewpoint after careful and detailed consideration of all the available advice. As the number of cases of coronavirus increases nationally, and more cases are diagnosed in South Wales, we believe that it would be irresponsible to bring people together in an enclosed environment. Several of our committee members have health issues which place them in the at-risk group, as [...]

25th Anniversary ‘Where are they now?’ Poster Exhibition When you are attending the festival or concert why not have a look at our 25th Anniversary Poster Exhibition? In 2018 AFYM celebrated its 25th anniversary with special features at both the festival and concert. One of these was a poster exhibition of alumni who were asked firstly to say what they were doing now and secondly what AFYM had given them. The results were very interesting and showed what those involved had gained from their AFYM experience as young performers. Some of the respondents are now pursuing careers as professional musicians [...]
Happy New Year to you all. With the AFYM fast approaching we just want to send a little reminder that when you come along to the festival you need to bring along a completed Music Administration Document with you. This is so we know what pieces will be being performed in the classes and we can inform the adjudicators. Don't forget to download and fill out your MAD slip (Music Administration Document) - you will need this when you arrive at AFYM in order to take part in your class. Download your MAD slip HERE.
